Huay Xai is on the border with Thailand, so it is a busy little town, but most people travel through it rather than to it. Luang Prabang

It was formerly the capital city of Laos up until 1975, and it straddles the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers. Luang Namtha
If you love the mountains, a visit to Luang Namtha in the country’s north may be right up your street. It is the largest city in north-western Laos and has borders with Myanmar and China and two provincial borders with Bokeo and Oudomxay provinces. It makes up part of the infamous golden triangle, and there are plenty of attractions in the area. You can go trekking, hire mountain bikes, enjoy a motorbike tour, or go zip lining through the jungle.
