Ongoing COVID uneasiness and the difficulties of flying are encouraging many families to spend their 2021 vacation time camping. How about you? Is camping your new favorite way to take a vacation for 2021? If so, welcome aboard. You are among plenty of good company.
Camping represents a different kind of vacation, especially if you have never done it before. The best part for newbies is the fact that you can choose your exact comfort level. Some newbies go straight to the fifth wheel or RV while others are content with smaller trailers and pop-ups. The bravest of the brave choose to go tent camping or sleep under the stars.
Assuming this summer’s trip will be your first camping experience, there are number of things you will discover about camping below. These are compliments of Connecticut-based AirSkirts, a company that sells a revolutionary inflatable RV skirting product.
Physical Distancing Built-In
If you avoid corporate campgrounds in favor of smaller mom-and-pop operations or wilderness camping, you will quickly discover that camping offers physical distancing built-in. And even at corporate campgrounds, you don’t have to be right on top of other people if you don’t want to be. Your campsite is your own. Furthermore, you can choose to use amenities during off-peak times.
A Great Home Base
Campgrounds make a great home base for further exploration. For example, a campground on the Maryland-Washington border makes a great launching spot for exploring DC. Take a bus from the campground to the subway station and then into the city. You can leave your car parked the entire week.
If you are more into national parks, you can spend an entire week exploring Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, or another great park destination. Our national parks are so big and wide open that you’ll never see it all in just one week.
Prepare for the Weather
Of course, a camping vacation is one that will force you to pay more attention to the weather than you might during a hotel trip. Whether you choose an RV or tent, precipitation and temperature changes can make for an uncomfortable trip among those who are not prepared.
AirSkirts recommends RV skirting to keep your trailer, fifth wheel or motorhome as comfortable as possible. Remember that campgrounds can get cool at night, even in the middle of the summer. So take at least one set of warm clothes. Also be sure to take some rain gear. And of course, do not forget the sunglasses and hats.
Dining Will Be Different
Unless you plan to drive to a restaurant every evening, your dining experiences will be different while you’re camping. Maybe this is an opportunity for you to learn to cook over an open fire. If not, a small propane grill will do the trick. You will have a kitchen to work with if you own or rent an RV.
Whatever you do, don’t settle for canned food and cold sandwiches. There is a lot you can do with the menu when you’re camping. It just requires a little creativity and know-how. And if you are the social type, rest assured your campground neighbors will be more than willing to help you figure it out. Campers are an especially friendly bunch that are never shy about lending a hand.
Summer 2021 will introduce camping to a lot of people for the first time. That is a good thing. Camping is a different kind of vacation everybody should try at least once. If you give it your best shot this summer and decide is not for you, that’s fine. At least you tried it.
